Level 7 - Open Night
There is an open night on Monday 27th February 2017 at 6.30pm in IT Carlow for the BA in Applied Early Childhood Education Level 7 course. Students who have participated on this Level 7 course will be available to speak about their experiences and answer any questions you may have.

The Affordable Childcare Scheme: Update
At a Cabinet meeting yesterday 24th January 2017, the Government approved a policy change in relation to the Affordable Childcare Scheme, increasing the number of weeks of subsidy payable per year from 48 to 52 weeks, and making a small linked reduction in the targeted hourly subsidy-rates in order to ensure the change is budget-neutral. Public consultation on the Single Affordable Childcare Scheme
On Friday 28th October 2016 Minister Zappone published a policy paper on the new Single Affordable Childcare Scheme and launched an online consultation survey.
The scheme, which was announced as part of Budget 2017, aims to make childcare more affordable for families. It will include a universal element for children between 6 and 36 months, and a targeted element, based on net parental income, for children up to 15 years. The scheme will also create a flexible platform for future investment in childcare.

Minister Zappone invites everyone- parents, other family members, childcare providers, childminders and anyone interested in the issues- to share their views on the detail of the policy by Friday 25th November 2016. The online survey can be accessed at here. If you would like a paper copy posted to you, please call 01 6473000.
Please note that submissions will not be responded to on an individual basis but will be taken into consideration. Feedback from the survey will be used to refine specific design features of the scheme to be introduced in September 2017, and to inform future policy development.
The Key Person Approach
Barnardos has launched a free booklet for early years educators on the Key Person Approach. The booklet provides information on what the key person approach is, the benefits for children, parents and educators, and what needs to be considered to ensure it works effectively. Early Childhood Ireland have commissioned a survey on the 'Real Cost of Childcare'. This research aims to identify the financial pressures in the sector and will go towards influencing policy making.
