Our 2010 Quality Conference is scheduled for Saturday 16th October and will cover the issue of Partnership with Parents in the Early Years.

Invites and further details will be issued to services next week.

We chose ‘Partnership with Parents’ as this year’s theme based on the many calls and meetings we have had with you and parents from the county. It appears that this topic is one which many of you are keen to explore.

With this in mind, the team here in the County Childcare Committee have gone through the common issues which are coming up for you and parents and have compiled a list which can be downloaded below. We would like you to rate this list based on the issues that you feel are most prominent for you.
These competed forms will be used to plan a workshop at the conference which will be of practical benefit to you.

Please return your form by post or email (see below) by Friday 10th September.

As per contractual agreement, services participating in the ECCE scheme are required to complete and submit a fee payment policy for 2010-2011 to Kilkenny County Childcare Committee for approval.

Services are also required to submit a completed ECCE calendar indicating the ECCE working days being undertaken by their service. A seperate calendar should be submitted for the 50 week and 38 week models where a service is offering both.

To support services in completing these forms Kilkenny County Childcare Committee have organised a Fees Payment Policy Information Meeting on the 12th August in the Ormonde Hotel from 6.30 to 8pm. Our colleagues in Carlow County Childcare Committee have developed computerised templates for calculating your fees payment policy and we will demonstrate this on the evening.

Both forms should be returned to Kilkenny County Childcare Committee by  Wednesday 18th August.

Both forms are available to download below along with guides to completing each:

I have applied for the CETS scheme..What happens now?

Applications for the scheme have been received from a number of childcare services and these are currently being processed.

Successful services will be paid a capitation fee for each childcare place it is contracted for with the OMCYA. The service, in turn, will reserve and provide a free childcare place to eligible FAS or VEC trainees.

The amount of CETS places contracted for in any given area is dependant upon FAS/VEC training provision locally. The OMCYA are currently compiling these figures and applicants will be notified of the number and type of CETS places the OMCYA require from them by the end of July.

In order for a parent to qualify for the scheme they must be attending a FAS Training Course or an educational programme administered by a Vocational Educational Committee (VEC). Qualification for the scheme will be determined by FAS and the VECs

If you require further information on the CETS scheme you can contact KKCCC on 056-7752865 or click on the link to the OMCYA website below.

General Terms and Conditions for the scheme are available on the OMCYA website.

A Magical Day at Lá Sugradh

Published on 02 July 2010 by kkccc in KKCCC News

Lá Sugradh, a free Family Fun/Play day took place last Saturday in Castle Park. Organised by Kilkenny County Childcare Committee with partners, Kilkenny Castle, OPW, Kilkenny County Council, Kilkenny Sports and Recreation Partnership and HSE, the event was a rip roaring success according to many of the hundreds of families who attended. The event was hosted to promote outdoor fun and as part of the fortnight of events to celebrate National Play day in addition to promoting the work of Kilkenny County Childcare Committee.

As in previous years lots of ‘play stations’ were dotted around the park which on was thronged with families who came from near and far to join in the fun. The ever popular Neil De Burca engaged the crowd with his fantastic storytelling while arts and craft stations were always busy with children making and doing. Animal magic were there too, entertaining everyone with their amazing collection of birds of prey as well as many reptiles, and bunnies and hedgehogs!!

To celebrate international year for Biodiversity, the Heritage office sponsored the Butterfly and Bug station where ecologist Billy Flynn encouraged children and adults to locate bugs in some ingenious and fun ways.  Children then identified them while Billy explained lots of interesting facts about our miniature wildlife and their importance to us.

Added to the above was Tai Chi, African Drumming, traditional games, tag rugby, soccer, croquet and the ever popular scavenger hunt. It was a day packed with interest for people of all ages.

The publication Kilkenny Kids was also launched on the day which was another item of interest to parents and children.

‘There is something magical happening in the park today ’ was how one woman described the event and indeed it was a magical day.

Many thanks to the Army personnel at Stephens Barracks who provided some equipment and were most helpful. Also thanks to the Fire Service’s ambulance team and to all the volunteers who helped to make Lá Sugradh a wonderful day.
A special thanks also to the Ormonde Hotel, The Watershed, Kilkenny Castle & Kilkenny Omniplex who provided a number of raffle prizes for the day.
