Job Title: Centre Manager (Johnstown)
Reporting to: Service Coordinator, Urlingford
Place of Work: Johnstown Community Childcare Centre (Co. Kilkenny)
Nature of Position: Full-Time Position (subject to satisfactory completion of probation period)
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours per week
Job Summary: The overall responsibility of the Centre Manager is to ensure the quality and inclusion of all children in the service and to ensure the smooth and successful operation and development of the Johnstown centre. The postholder will have a responsibility for developing strong working relationship with children, families and the staff team.
Role and Responsibilities
-To support the Service Coordinator in ensuring the smooth and effective running of all aspects of the Centre.
-To have a strong working knowledge of Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and the ability to support staff with the application of Aistear in all aspects of pedagogy, including planning and supporting children’s learning and development.
-To engage with the Siolta framework to support the improvement of quality across all aspects of practice in the service and promote a holistic approach to quality provision.
-Leading inclusive practice, inclusive pedagogy and an inclusive culture within the setting and providing support and information to staff and parents on inclusion of all children, with reference to the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Charter and Guidelines.
-Cascade learning throughout the staff in the setting so as to foster an inclusive culture and support ongoing professional development.
-Share learning and good practice regarding observations, documentation and curriculum planning and development, modelling good practice and utilising different strategies for collaborating with the team regarding effective communication with children, with reference to Aistear and Siolta principles and guidelines.
-Engaging with ongoing CPD to ensure adherence to good practice
-To ensure the voice, needs and rights of the child underpin all aspects of the ethos and practices within the project.
-To ensure child development reports and observations are accurate and up to date.
-To inspire, enable and motivate staff to take an active lead in the classroom based on individual strengths
-To promote parental partnership to the greatest extent.
-To maintain and observe all mandatory obligations in regard to child safeguarding.
-To ensure the health and safety of children, staff, parents and visitors to the centre whilst on the premises or in the care of the Johnstown community Childcare.
-To support the Service Coordinator in the review of all policies and procedures as necessary.
-To link and liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies and with other professionals involved with the families linked into the centre.
-Encourage the team to work together and distribute staff as necessary for adult/child ratios and to provide cover as necessary to ensure minimal disruption to their daily routines; this includes breaks, annual leave and sick leave.
-In conjunction with the coordinator, ensure compliance with all regulatory inspection processes and maintain all relevant documentation.
-In conjunction with the coordinator, ensure compliance with all funding requirements and rule regarding the DCEDIY funding schemes.
-Complete any necessary administrative tasks that may be assigned by the Service Coordinator
-Maintain good communication with the Service Coordinator at all times.
-Complete any other reasonable duties that may be assigned by the Project Coordinator
Essential Requirements
-Have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role.
-At least three year’s relevant experience.
-Relevant Level 7 qualification (Level 8 is desirable) or equivalent in childcare or related discipline.
-Excellent ICT and administration skills.
-Knowledge/ experience of the DCEDIY funding/ Pobal Hive system schemes is desirable.
-Very good judgement, problem solving and analytical skills.
-Highly motivated with a positive and compassionate outlook.
-Good interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
-Ability to generate strong team morale, cooperation and participation.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Upholds high standards of honesty, ethics and integrity.
