After school Assistants

(30 hours per week @ €14.50 p/h)

ABOUT US: KTCM is a Traveller led organisation which supports Travellers and Traveller community development throughout County Kilkenny. The KTCM works in partnership with Kilkenny County Council, Kilkenny Leader Partnership Company, the Health Service Executive and the Family Resource Centres in the City and County.

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the development and growth of the KTCM After School Service

Role: Assisting in developing, coordinating and directing varied activities involved in an After School Programme

Reports to: After School Manager

This will involve:

  • Ensuring the welfare of all children in our After school service is of paramount importance
  • To deliver high quality supports that takes into account the children’s holistic needs
  • Maintain practices that are respectful and non-discriminatory
  • Knowledge of child development & learning
  • Interest in continuous professional development
  • Collaborate with the Manager for the purpose of implementing, reviewing and maintaining services and/ or programs
  • Ensure a good standard of hygiene
  • Be aware of all policies and follow same
  • Be aware of child protection procedures and advise manager should you have any concerns about a child
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, any breach of confidentiality about children or their families will constitute gross misconduct
  • Perform other reasonable and relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time

 General Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Co-ordinate the implementation of activities suitable for this age group
  • Maintain room, and equipment, to ensure the health and safety of children at all times
  • Maintain excellent records and evaluations
  • Liaise with outside agencies
  • Supervision of homework activities
  • Support the Afterschool Manager to maintain a database of activity, outputs/outcomes
  • Plan, implement and evaluate behaviour management strategies alongside the manager
  • Work in co-operation with other team members, adhering to all policies and procedures, participate in any internal / external meetings as required
  • Participate in regular supervision and appraisal meetings with the After school Manager and/or the KTCM Coordinator

The specific duties and responsibilities of this job description are not restrictive and the post holder will be expected to undertake any other duties within the scope of the role, as required by the KTCM Board

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of Traveller culture and working as part of an After school team
  • A relevant 3rd level or postgrad qualification (FETAC Level 6 or above)
  • Have excellent communication, facilitation, report-writing skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Be familiar with current policy as it pertains to child development and learning
  • Good IT Skills
  • This position will be Garda Vetted

Desirable

  • Have experience of working with Travellers
  •  High motivation, positive disposition and flexible attitude in response to child development
  • Experience working with children with challenging behavior
