In 2024, Kilkenny’s Community of Professional Practice began with a small number of educators. This was established to provide an opportunity for educators to meet, network, discuss practice and seek advice and support from each other. These meetings were held once a quarter. Educators came together and brought forward the areas of practice they may be struggling with or the areas of quality in their practice that they felt could help others.
Throughout these meetings, a common theme became apparent; educators highlighted the need for selfcare and regulation.
This feedback allowed us to provide Decembers Tuff Tray workshop, which helped educators focus on emotional and sensory regulation for themselves and for children and provided relatable ideas and strategies to support quality in their practice.
Other areas that have come to light throughout the COPP were how to develop an emergent curriculum, planning for babies and toddlers and supporting children with Autism.
We will be issuing our 2025 schedule of training in the coming weeks that will encompass the themes that have arisen through the COPP.
We plan to grow the COPP network in 2025 and would love new members to join and contribute to the development of quality across all ELC/SAC services in Kilkenny.
The first CoPP of 2025 will be a discussion around the new updated Aistear on Tuesday 18th February @ 6.30pm – Kilkenny CCC Office. (Location may change due to numbers)
