Kilkenny County Childcare Committee (CCC) was established in 2001 with EU funding under the Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme (EOCP). This was replaced in 2006 by the National Childcare Investment Programme (NCIP).
Thirty City and County Childcare Committees are funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) and act as local agents for DCEDIY in the administration of national early childhood care and education programmes. The CCCs are often the first point of contact for parents and service providers in relation to early childhood care and education initiatives (e.g. funding schemes such as ECCE scheme or capital grants, local training and continuing professional development and networking). Having a local focus and knowledge means that CCCs are well positioned to support the development and capacity of services locally which in turn cater for the needs of local parents and children.
